No will yet forthcoming following rock star's death

As many readers of this blog already now, the world famous rock star, Prince, who made his home in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, recently passed away. Unfortunately, there is also some speculation that, despite being worth hundreds of millions of dollars, Prince did not leave a will.

We help clients value small businesses correctly

As a recent post on this blog discussed, sometimes, the correct estate valuation of a Minnesota estate hinges upon how much a private business, family-held or otherwise, is worth. This can be difficult to determine because, unlike publicly traded companies, there is no open market that reflects a buying and selling price for a share of stock in that business.

How do I estimate the value of my family's business?

As this Minnesota blog has discussed in the past, sometimes, probate litigation arises because a family cannot agree on how to value a family business when a long-time owner and manager dies. This type of dispute is difficult because most family businesses are not publically held companies. As a result, it is very hard to get an exact idea of how much a share in the business is worth and, by extension, the exact value of an estate.

Artist's family continues court battle

The family of a famous artist who succumbed to the effects of a stoke and cancer last year is now in the midst of a court battle in which they are challenging a will that they say does not truly reflect their mother's intentions. Because this artist is nationally known, both in her own right and as part of a family of distinguished Native American artists, some residents of Rochester, Minnesota, may have heard of her.

Helping Minnesotans resolve trust disputes

Although our law office has the willingness and the experience to see a hotly contested trust dispute all the way through a trial, many Saint Paul, Minnesota, residents who have the misfortune of having to deal with a messy trust fight, quite possibly with family members, may prefer for a lot of reasons to avoid a public court battle and instead, resolve what is often a deeply personal and emotional legal conflict quietly.
